Bauchi State governor, Senator Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed, has taken a decisive step to address the lingering crisis within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state, emerging as chairman of a high-powered consultative committee tasked with charting a path forward ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The development follows an emergency expanded stakeholders’ meeting convened by the governor amid rising concerns over internal divisions and the fast-approaching deadline for the submission of party candidates.
The high-level meeting, attended by key party stakeholders, was held behind closed doors at the Government House, underscoring the urgency and sensitivity of the issues discussed.
Speaking to journalists after the meeting, the state PDP chairman, Samaila Adamu Burga, disclosed that participants unanimously agreed to establish a reconciliation and strategy committee.
He explained that the committee, led by Governor Mohammed, has been given a one-week mandate to resolve all outstanding disputes and reposition the party for a seamless and competitive outing in the 2027 general elections.
Burga expressed confidence that the intervention would restore unity, strengthen party structures, and significantly boost the PDP’s prospects in Bauchi State.
The move also comes days after widespread rumours suggested that Governor Mohammed might defect to the All Progressives Congress (APC), a development that drew significant attention given his position as chairman of the PDP Governors’ Forum.
