Amid the Hajj rites, a pilgrim from Bauchi State, Abdullahi Adamu, passed away while standing in prayer on Mount Arafat during this year’s Arafat Day observance.

Adamu hails from Ganjuwa local government area of the state.

Bauchi State Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board confirmed the incident yesterday, expressing condolences to the bereaved family and the people of Ganjuwa.

According to the Board, Adamu died while engaged in religious devotion at the sacred site, a key ritual stop in the annual Hajj pilgrimage.

The Board assured that all appropriate procedures have been followed in accordance with Islamic rites and Saudi Hajj regulations, adding that it is in communication with Adamu’s family to ensure they are kept informed and supported during this difficult time.

Described by fellow pilgrims as a devout and humble man, Adamu’s final moments were spent in the very act of worship, surrounded by millions of faithful Muslims gathered on the plain of Arafat, where the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) delivered his Farewell Sermon over 1,400 years ago.

“This is a deeply emotional loss, not just for his immediate family, but for the entire Bauchi pilgrim community,” executive secretary Bauchi Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board, Imam Abdulrahman Idris, said.
He added, “To die on Arafat Day, in a state of Ihram and worship, is considered an immensely blessed passing in Islam.”

LEADERSHIP learnt that Adamu had travelled to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia as part of the Bauchi State Hajj delegation. His death marks a poignant moment during what is otherwise a time of reflection, mercy, and prayer for millions of Muslims from around the globe.

Mount Arafat, located about 20 kilometers from Mecca, holds profound spiritual significance. Arafat Day is regarded as the climax of the Hajj rites, a day of supplication and divine forgiveness.
