The Bauchi State Police Command has handed over a suspected drug dealer and 161 kilograms of seized illicit substances to the State’s command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) for further investigation and prosecution.

Speaking during the handover ceremony on Friday at the Command headquarters, Commissioner of Police, CP Aliyu Sani-Omolori, said the Command has strengthened its policing efforts, resulting in significant progress in the fight against crime and criminality within the month under review.

According to him, operatives arrested Mr. Ogbu Simon, a suspected narcotics dealer, in Ningi local government area and recovered 161kg of suspected Diazepam (D5) and Tramadol from him, valued at approximately N12.2million.

CP Sani-Omolori recalled that the arrest followed credible intelligence received on November 26, 2025, at about 2000hrs, when a concerned citizen reported suspicious sacks being offloaded at a shop owned by the suspect in Ningi.

He said detectives from the Ningi Divisional Police Headquarters, led by the DPO, CSP Surajo Ibrahim Birnin Kudu, conducted a targeted operation at the shop, resulting in the seizure of four large bags containing the suspected narcotics.

Following the initial operation, the Operation Restore Peace (ORP) unit was deployed to intensify investigations and track down the suspect. The team later arrested Mr. Ogbu, who reportedly confessed to supplying drugs to various markets within and outside Ningi. He is believed to source his supplies from Onitsha, Anambra State.

CP Sani-Omolori reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to combating drug-related crimes, urging residents to remain vigilant and maintain cooperation with security agencies.

“The suspect, along with the recovered exhibits, is hereby handed over to the NDLEA Bauchi Command for further investigation and diligent prosecution,” he stated.

He added that the Command’s achievements were a result of strengthened collaboration with sister security agencies, community involvement, and intelligence-led policing.

Receiving the exhibits, DCN Usaini Umaru, Deputy State Commander of NDLEA, Bauchi State Command, commended the Police for their sustained efforts and assured that the anti-narcotics agency would proceed with necessary actions on the case.
