A tragic accident has claimed the life of Superintendent of Police (SP) Mustapha Garba, a serving officer with the Bauchi State Police Command, who died on Saturday while on his way to his wedding in Toro local government area of the State.
According to police reports, SP Garba was travelling from Gumau to Magaman-Gumau for his wedding fatiha when the fatal crash occurred at Bargan Tsamiya. He was in the company of three friends, all riding in a Mercedes Benz, when the vehicle lost control, veered off its lane, and collided head-on with an oncoming Opel Vectra vehicle.
Confirming the incident, the spokesperson for the Bauchi State Police Command, CSP Mohammed Ahmed Wakil, described the loss as a devastating blow to the Command.
“The Command is in mourning,” Wakil stated. “SP Mustapha Garba was on his way to attend his own wedding when the unfortunate incident occurred. He was in the company of three friends in a Mercedes Benz.”
Wakil further explained that upon receiving the news of the crash, the Commissioner of Police, CP Auwal Sani-Omolori, swiftly directed the Divisional Police Officer of Toro Division to mobilise personnel and evacuate the victims to Toro General Hospital.
“Sadly, a medical doctor at the hospital confirmed the groom and two others dead,” he added.
The bodies of the deceased have since been released to their families for burial in accordance with Islamic rites.
In a statement of condolence, CP Auwal Sani-Omolori expressed deep sorrow over the incident, extending heartfelt sympathies to the families of the victims and praying for strength to bear the tragic loss.
The late SP Mustapha Garba was remembered by colleagues as a dedicated officer whose life was tragically cut short on what was meant to be a joyful occasion.
