The Police Command in Bauchi state has warned that the restrictions on motorcycles and tricycles remain in force, and violation by any rider will face full wrath of the law.

The Command in a press statement Friday reiterated the state government’s Executive Order on restrictions on motorcycles and tricycles in the state, reminding operators that the order is still in force.

The statement signed by the command’s police public relations officer (PPRO), SP Nafi’u Habib explained that the measure is expedient to ensure suppression of rising criminal activities under the cover of night, as security concerns continue to spill over in some parts of the State.

SP Nafi’u Habib stated that the restriction on motorcycles commences at 8:00 pm while that on tricycles commences at 10:00 pm daily.

The Command in a related development also described the claim by one Ishak Abubakar Major that he has been brutally beaten by Police and denied his fundamental human rights, as malicious, mischievous, and baseless, aimed at misinforming the general public and prejudicing and undermining the efforts of Bauchi State Command.

“The attention of Bauchi State Police Command has been drawn to purported video clips circulating on social media platforms, created by one Ishak Abubakar popularly known as “Major”, who claimed to have been brutally beaten by Police and denied his fundamental human rights”.

“The crux of the matter is that on Saturday, 18th April 2026, the Bauchi State Road Traffic Agency (BAROTA), reported at A’ Divisional Police Headquarters within Bauchi metropolis while enforcing the Executive Order at Wunti under‑flyover, regarding the restriction of overnight work by motorcyclists (Okada riding), tricyclists (Keke Napep), and the illegal use of external horns (best light horn) which causes public nuisance at the expense of law-abiding citizens in the State”.

“Specifically, while on enforcement, the BAROTA personnel intercepted some violators of the Executive Order and arrested them for various offences related to the Bauchi State Traffic Act and the violation of the Executive Order. In turn, the suspects called one Ishak Abubakar, aged 25 years, of Karofin Madaki area, Bauchi metropolis, to the scene”.

“Upon his arrival, the said Major attacked the BAROTA personnel, who were on legal duty, and allegedly accused them of illegally extorting motorcyclists and tricyclists without any justification and further insulting them with different abusive tones”.

SP Nafi’u Habib recalled that as a result of the incident, the said Major caused obstruction of legal duty and disturbance of public peace, attempted to cause unrest, incited motorcyclists/tricyclists, and tampered with the enforcement of the Executive Order of the Bauchi State Government.

“While in Police custody, the suspect continued to insult officers and was busy hitting his head and legs on the cell’s wall and burglar bars. Officers on duty made observations in the station diary concerning the suspect’s acts”.

The PPRO stated that upon conclusion of investigation, the suspect was arraigned before a Magistrate’s Court on 20th April 2026 to face charges relating to obstruction, assault, and insult of public officers in the discharge of their duties.

Bauchi State Police Command therefore debunked the malicious claim by the author who claimed to have been brutally beaten and denied his rights, and viewed it as an attempt to undermine the constituted authority in the State at the expense of the Command to uphold justice and maintain the relative peace being enjoyed in the State.

Habib explained that the Command would have overlooked this issue, but it has become expedient to set the record straight, as the public is being misled by a section of the bloggers, a narrative which tends to undermine the collaborative synergy amongst security agencies operating in the State.

Meanwhile the Command has constituted a dedicated investigation team of experienced detectives, saddled with the responsibility of collecting and assessing all relevant information surrounding this unfortunate incident’s remote and immediate causes.
