Bauchi Varsity Promotes 11 Academic Staff To Professors

Sa’adu Zungur University Governing Council has approved the promotion of six academic staff members to Professors from October 1, 2023.

Under Professor Ango Abdullahi’s chairmanship, the Council also promoted five others to Readers (Associate Professors), as contained in a letter signed by A. G. Hassan, registrar and secretary to the council.

The newly promoted professors were introduced at the 49th regular meeting of the university Senate, held on July 25, 2024, at the Senate Chamber of the university.

A statement by Auwal Hassan, Public Relations Officer to the university and made available to journalists yesterday, said the staff promoted to rank of professors are Dr Mustapha Garba Muh’d of the Dept. of Islamic Studies, Professor of Islamic Studies; Dr Shuaibu Musa Ardo of the Dept. of Islamic Studies, Professor of Islamic Studies; Dr Jocob Itse Dabo of the Dept. of Science Education; Professor of Educational Administration and Dr. Abdussalam Murtala Alhaqiqi of the Dept. of Arabic, Professor of Arabic Rhetoric and Criticism.

Others are Dr Zubairu Abubakar Madaki, a professor of Islamic studies at the Department of Islamic Studies, and Dr. Sani Babayo Yana, a Professor of Arabic Language and Linguistics at the Department of Arabic.

The five staff promoted to the rank of Readers (Associate Professors) are Dr Musa Adamu Wunti of the Department of Political Science, Reader in Comparative Politics and Peace Studies, Dr Eghosa E. Elijah of the Department of Mathematical Sciences, Reader in Mathematics and Dr Baba Tanimu of the Dept. of Islamic Studies, Reader in Islamic Studies.

Dr Yunusa Abubakar, of the Department of Education Art, is a Reader in Sociology of Education, and Dr Sani Abubakar Abdullahi, of the Department of Arabic, is a Reader in Arabic Literature Education.

The vice chancellor Prof Fatimah Tahir, said the promotion of the staff reflects the university’s commitment to academic excellence, research innovation and the professional growth of its faculty.

Tahir, chairman of the Appointments and Promotions Committee (A&PC), disclosed that positive external assessment reports were received regarding the promotion of the listed staff, as required by the university A&PC’s regulations.

She pointed out that the promotion is a demonstration of the exceptional dedication of the respective staff to their fields of study and significant contribution to both the academic community and the broader society.

She added that, “The promotion is also a testament to their hard work, research prowess, and unwavering commitment to the university’s mission and vision of fostering knowledge and development.”
