The Bauchi State Youth Democratic Assembly has risen in defence of Governor Bala Mohammed following series of criticisms levelled against him by former speaker of the House of Representatives,
Yakubu Dogara and Senator Shehu Buba Umar.
At a press conference held in Bauchi yesterday, the convener Mr Daure David described Dogara’s comments on Governor Bala’s leadership style as “hypocritical and lacking in merit.”
He pointed to Dogara’s own tenure as speaker of the House of Representatives, marked by controversy and ineffectiveness, making him an unlikely candidate to critique Governor Bala’s exemplary
leadership.
Daure David said, “They are envying his achievements which include construction of roads across the 20 LGAs, improving transportation, reconstruction and rebuilding the New Government House, facilitating
economic growth, and providing a conducive working environment for government officials to serve the state better”.
The group also enumerated other achievements of Governor Bala Mohammed to include revamping the health sector, renovation and equipping of hospitals and healthcare centres, revamping the education sector, renovation and equipping schools, training of teachers, and implementing youths-oriented programmes, including skills acquisition and empowerment initiatives.
“These achievements are testament to Governor Mohammed’s visionary leadership and commitment to the people of Bauchi state. Dogara’s statement on the other hand, is replete with falsehoods, personal
attacks, and a blatant disregard for facts,” it noted.
The youth assembly observed that Dogara has consistently demonstrated lack of understanding of governance and leadership, stressing that his criticisms of Governor Bala Mohammed’s response to the recent protests were unfounded and mischievous.
“Dogara’s criticism of Governor Mohammed’s leadership style is hypocritical, given his own record as Speaker of the House of Representatives. His tenure was marked by inefficiency, corruption, and a lack of accountability. He has no moral ground to question Governor Mohammed’s leadership”.
It argued that Senator Buba has forgotten how Governor Bala made him caretaker chairman of Toro LGA in 2019, which he has attested to on many occasions, describing Governor Bala as his political godfather.
“Dogara and Shehu Buba’s allegations are baseless and lack substance.
They are simply trying to distract the public from their own failures and shortcomings”, the youths added.
