Bayelsa State Chief Judge, Hon. Justice Matilda Abrakasa Ayemieye, has expressed gratitude over the rescue of Justice E.G. Umukoro of the Bayelsa State High Court, who was abducted in June and held captive until last Thursday.
A statement yesterday by the head of Media and Information of the Bayelsa State Judiciary, Julius Nyananyo, attributed the successful outcome to the tireless efforts of the Government of Bayelsa State, security agencies, the Nigerian Bar Association, organisations, community leaders and the Judiciary family.
The Chief Judge expressed heartfelt appreciation to everyone who played a part in the rescue of Justice Umukoro,noting that the successful rescue was a result of combined efforts and strong support from key figures and institutions across the country.
She gave special thanks to the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Hon. Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun, and the National Judicial Council for their concern and swift response. She also commended Governor Douye Diri, his deputy, Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, and the speaker of the State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Ingobere Abraham, for their major role.
She further praised the Department of State Services (DSS), the Nigeria Police Force, and other security agencies for their strategic operations, synergy, and dedication.
She conveyed her appreciation to the Nigerian Bar Association under the leadership of Mazi Afam Osigwe, SAN and also acknowledged the support of the Yenagoa and Sagbama branches of the NBA, the Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria, various organisations and respected community leaders for their meaningful contributions.
“Deep gratitude is further extended to the family and loved ones of Justice Omukoro whose strength, patience and cooperation remain deeply valued,” she added.
The Chief Judge noted that the operation underscores the power of collaboration, patience and professionalism in resolving such delicate situations.
