The Clerk to the National Assembly, Magaji Tambawal, has advised security agents posted to the Assembly to be civil in the discharge of their duties.
He was reacting to the assault on two senior staff of the National Assembly by some officials of the Department of State Services on Friday.
A statement issued by the secretary, human resources and staff development, Birma Shuaibu Maina for the clerk said the top management of the National Assembly was aware of the Friday incident which involved Dr. John Nnnaji, the clerk, Senate Committee on Petroleum (Upstream), Comrade M. C. Odo and some DSS operatives at the National Assembly complex.
“The clerk to the National Assembly and a top management team visited Comrade Odo at the National Assembly clinic and immediately called for an emergency meeting between the management, security personnel and PASAN officials during which the unfortunate incident was deliberated upon and unanimously resolved as follows: That the DSS and other security operatives should work in harmony with the Sergeant-At-Arms; all security operatives within the National Assembly complex should be civil in the discharge of their duties; and all members of staff should always display their identity cards for easy identification.
“The CNA and the top management hereby appeal to staff to be calm, peaceful and law abiding as the situation is under control,” the statement said.
