Former Manchester City defender, Benjamin Mendy, has initiated legal proceedings against the club, claiming unpaid wages.

The 29-year-old footballer alleged “unauthorised deductions from wages,” a move stemming from his tumultuous legal battle in 2021, where he faced charges of rape and sexual assault.

Mendy, a France international, was cleared of six counts of rape and one count of sexual assault by a jury in January, concluding a six-month trial. However, the jury was unable to reach verdicts on two counts of rape and attempted rape, prompting a retrial.

Mendy was ultimately found not guilty of the two charges in July.
