A governorship aspirant of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Benue State, Dr Raymond Edoh, has defected to the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) alongside some key political stakeholders in the state.
His defection was announced over the weekend after the submission of resignation letters to the ADC National Secretariat in Abuja.
The movement involved House of Representatives aspirants, senatorial hopefuls, ward executives, local government officials and party supporters loyal to Edoh.
Speaking with journalists after submitting his resignation letter, Edoh said the decision followed extensive consultations with political associates and grassroots leaders across Benue State.
He explained that the group resolved to collapse its structures into the NDC because of what he described as the party’s growing acceptance among the people.
Edoh said the move was also influenced by the desire to align with a leadership style focused on the welfare of ordinary Nigerians.
According to him, the NDC offers a fresh political direction capable of addressing the challenges confronting Benue residents.
“Our decision was reached after wide consultations with stakeholders and supporters across the state. We believe the NDC represents the aspirations of the people at this critical time,” he said.
Also speaking, a party leader, Sunday Atah, said Edoh’s humanitarian activities and accessibility to the masses informed the decision to join forces with him in the NDC.
He described the governorship aspirant as a compassionate leader whose interventions had positively affected youths, widows, students, displaced persons and other vulnerable groups in the state.
“We have decided to join forces with Dr Raymond Edoh because he represents the kind of leadership Benue State truly needs at this critical time,” Atah stated.
Atah added that Edoh had continued to distinguish himself through consistent support for struggling families and empowerment programmes across communities.
He expressed confidence that the growing support for the NDC would reposition the party ahead of future political contests in the state.
