The Benue State House of Assembly yesterday passed four bills to strengthen infrastructure, resource management and regulatory systems across the state.

The bills, which were read for the third time during a plenary presided over by the speaker, Alfred Emberga, included a bill to establish the Benue State Electricity/Power Management Agency (BESMA).

The proposed law seeks to create a framework for improved electricity management and power distribution within the state.

Also passed was a bill to provide for road traffic management and make provision for road traffic and vehicle inspection in Benue.

This legislation is expected to enhance traffic control mechanisms and ensure proper vehicle inspection standards.

In addition, the house also passed a bill to provide for the establishment of Benue State Forestry, Mines and Solid Minerals Management Commission, which aimed to regulate and manage the state’s natural resources more effectively.

The house equally passed a bill to establish the Benue State Road Maintenance Agency (BENROMA), a move designed to improve road maintenance and infrastructure development across Benue.

The speaker invited the Clerk of the House, Dr Bem Mela, to read the bills for the third time in line with legislative procedures.

Following the readings, Emberga declared that the bills, having satisfied all legislative requirements, were duly passed by the house.
