Benue Assembly Suspends LG Auditor-General Over Alleged N4.6bn Fraud

‎The Benue State House of Assembly has suspended the Auditor General for Local Government, Abraham Gberidyer, over allegations of financial misappropriation and fraud amounting to the tune of Four billion, Six hundred thousand (₦4.6b)Naira.

‎The House took the decision during a plenary presided over by the Speaker Rt. Hon. Berger Alfred Emberga.
‎
‎Governor Hyacinth Alia had in a letter sent to the House through the Office of the Head of Service, informed the House of serious financial impropriety, leveled against the Auditor General.
‎
‎According to the letter, the Auditor General is currently under investigation on allegations of corruption and can not continue to hold his office inline with the provision of the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria as it relates to the removal of a corrupt public officer from office.
‎
The statement issued by the Chief Press Secretary to the Speaker, Benue State House of Assembly, Zape Michael Upaa, said the House unanimously suspended the Auditor General from office to pave way for proper investigation.
