The project aims at addressing the housing deficit and accommodation challenges faced by low-income earners in the state.

Performing the ceremony in Makurdi yesterday, Governor Hyacinth Alia, said the construction of the estate would mark the end of housing deficit in the state, especially for low-income earners,

He said it also aligned with the administration’s vision to enable Benue meet up with other developing cities of the federation.

Represented by the deputy governor, Sam Ode, the governor explained that the ongoing dualisation of the Wurukum Roundabout near the estate was meant to enhance accessibility.

According to the governor, “I want to urge citizens to take advantage of this project and improve on their business, I want to also encourage investors especially Benue citizens to subscribe to this smart estate. It will be an estate that will conform to the modern trend in housing.

“We are calling on investors to come in quickly and see how they can be off takers of this important project. There are two (2) hectares here and two(2) in another location. We want Benue indigenes to be part of these gains of our government”.

Earlier, the group managing director of Benue State Investment and Property Company Limited (BIPC), Dr Raymond Asemakaha, stressed the urgent need for sustainable and affordable housing in Benue State.

He said, “When completed, the  Eco- City Estate will bridge the housing deficit gap and high-cost of accommodation in the state.”

According to him, “We are starting with 32 units housing, the Second phase will be 48, and that is how we will be moving, we also have 30 hectares of land that will house 1,000 housing units. We are looking at one year, this will be done within 6 months, and the other phase, within 24 months for completion”, Dr Asemakaha added.

Some of the residents who spoke to our correspondent commended the governor for his foresight, saying with what they are seeing, the governor need no campaign come 2027.

A food vendor in the area Nancy Orhungur who also appreciated God for the gift of the governor described the project as a wonderful initiative saying, “this will also boost our business and as well open the area in  terms of light and potable water, Governor Alia is really out to take Benue out of shame.”
