Benue State governor, Hyacinth Alia, has appointed music icon Innocent Idibia, popularly known as 2Baba, as his Technical Adviser on Entertainment and Community Outreach.
The announcement was made public on Wednesday in a video that has since gone viral, showing the governor warmly addressing the singer and acknowledging his contributions to the state and his administration.
“On behalf of the Benue State government and our very good people, we want to give you some more responsibility plus the ones you have been doing,” Governor Alia said during the meeting. “Because you have the capacity to do some more and help us chart a way forward to improve other people’s lives and to gain more from your wisdom and advice as well.”
He continued: “So, I’m pleased to announce that we will make you a technical adviser to the governor on entertainment and community outreach.”
The appointment is seen as part of Governor Alia’s effort to engage influential figures in the state’s development, particularly in mobilising youth and using entertainment as a tool for social change.
2Baba, who hails from Benue State, is a multi-award-winning musician and one of Africa’s most celebrated artists. He was recently in the spotlight after he announced his separation from his wife, Annie Macauley-Idibia and proposed marriage to a member of the Edo State House of Assemby, Hon. Natasha Osawaru.
