The Benue State government has expressed shock over the level of infrastructural decay at Aper Aku Stadium in Makurdi and other sporting facilities in the state.
The state commissioner for youth, sports and creativity, Hon.Terkimbi Ikyange, stated this while on an inspection tour of the facilities at the stadium.
He said the level of infrastructural decay was enough reason to discourage athletes from training and giving out their best to the state and country.
The commissioner noted that the swimming pool, volleyball, basketball and tennis courts as well as hockey pitch and training facilities for boxing, traditional sports and weight lifting were all left to degenerate to a level that athletes would not be able to use for training.
At the main bowl pitch of the Aper Aku Stadium, Ikyange was disabling angry that the Stadium was left rotten to the level the Benue State’s football club, Lobi Stars, would have no choice but to play their home matches outside the State in the forthcoming football season.
