Benue: PDP Group Raises Alarm Over Planned Protest Against Rainbow Coalition

A group under the auspices of the Benue Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) New Generation Movement has raised the alarm over a planned sponsored protest against the minister of the Federal Capital Territory, (FCT) Nyesom Ezenwo Wike’s rainbow coalition in Benue State.

In a statement issued by its spokesperson, Austin Adanwo, the group accused the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the state government of being behind the planned protest against Wike.

The group called on the state APC and state government “to immediately shelve this shameful and divisive planned protest. Governance should not be reduced to organising protests against those who support the President,” the statement said.

The statement further called on the inspector-general of police (IGP) and the Department of State Services (DSS) to ensure that their personnel and resources were not misused for partisan purposes or activities capable of causing disaffection or a breach of the peace.

“In conclusion, the Benue PDP New Generation Movement stands solidly with Chief Nyesom Wike. Supporting President Bola Tinubu is not a crime.”

Reacting to the claim, the Publicity Secretary of the APC Benue State chapter, Benedict Yawe, dismissed the PDP group’s allegation.

“We are not aware of such planned protest. Secondly, Benue PDP and its groups are desperately looking for relevance and as such they can raise false alarm to also look for popularity because the opposition PDP is not popular in the state,” he said.
