Former United States President Joe Biden has opened up about life after leaving office in 2025, revealing that he has been spending time with his family while undergoing treatment following a cancer diagnosis.

Biden also announced the release of a new memoir titled Promise Me, America, which is scheduled to be published in November.

The former president made the disclosure in a video posted on his verified X account on Wednesday, where he reflected on his post-presidency life and shared details about the forthcoming book.

“Since I left the presidency, I’ve had a lot of people ask me, ‘Joe, what have you been doing?'” Biden said.

“I’ve been spending a lot of time with my family. I’m dealing with a cancer diagnosis, and I’ve been getting treatment, and it’s been going really well. I want to thank all those involved for their prayers and support and well wishes. It’s meant the world to me and to Jill.”

The 82-year-old said the memoir chronicles his years in the White House, the major decisions of his administration and the principles that guided his leadership.

“I’ve written a book about my time as president. It’s called Promise Me, America. It’s coming out in November, and it’s available for pre-order now,” he said.

According to Biden, the book explores the challenges his administration confronted, including the COVID-19 pandemic, efforts to rebuild the U.S. economy and measures taken to strengthen American democracy in the aftermath of the January 6, 2021, attack on the U.S. Capitol.

He said the memoir also recounts his decision to end America’s longest war in Afghanistan, reinforce the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO), and provide support for Ukraine amid its conflict with Russia.

The former president noted that the book addresses his controversial 2024 re-election campaign, explaining both why he initially sought another term and why he ultimately chose to withdraw from the race.

“It’s about why I chose to run for re-election, and why I chose to step aside,” Biden said.

Beyond politics, Biden said the memoir reflects his enduring belief in the values that have defined the United States.

“Most of all, it’s about my faith in the promise of America. The promise we made to those who have gone before us, and to honor their sacrifice. The promise we made to one another, and to treat everyone with dignity and respect. And the promise we made to future generations of Americans to remain the beacon to the world.”

He expressed hope that readers would find inspiration in the book and renew their confidence in the country’s future.

“Promise Me, America is about my faith in America and the American people. I hope you’ll read it, and I hope it strengthens your faith in what we can do as a nation and a people,” Biden said.
