The organisers of the 15th Biennial Police Games (BIPOGA), currently underway in Asaba, Delta have praised the consistently fair officiating throughout the week-long sports festival.
The games are being held at the Stephen Keshi Stadium, St Patrick’s College, and other venues within the state capital.
The theme for BIPOGA Asaba 2026 is “Beyond the Badge: Excellence in Action.”
Fom-Bam Joseph, an Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) and Chairman of the organising committee, attributed the smooth and successful competition to thorough planning. He emphasised that the welfare of over 6,000 athletes, competing in 37 sports, was a top priority.
Mr Joseph commended the Delta State Government for providing excellent sports facilities, noting the introduction of new sports like Mixed Martial Arts. This addition is part of efforts to modernise the competition and broaden participation. He also highlighted other sports events, including Archery, Arm Wrestling, Triathlon, Tug of War, Vovinam Vietvodao, and Wushu Kungfu.
Benjamin Hundeyin, an Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) and Force PRO, stated that the Police Games have been running since 1940, evolving with various innovations and producing many champions over the years.
The week-long Biennial Police Games will conclude this Saturday with a vibrant closing ceremony.
Meanwhile, various sporting activities continued at the festival, with some events already finalised.
In women’s wrestling, Ayodele Esther from Zone 2 secured the gold medal in the 65kg category, followed by Chidera Chibueze from Zone 9, who clinched silver. Seleakiare Alfred from Zone 16 took bronze, while Blessing Ebare from Zone 5 finished fourth.
In the 97kg Greco-Roman category, Force Headquarters established its dominance among medal contenders, with Shadrac Hunu taking first place. Muokokwu Anthony from Zone 13 came second, Nweze Kingsley from Zone 9 secured third, and Theman Luka from Zone 3 placed fourth.
Ikechukwu Robbinson from Zone 9 won the 77kg Greco-Roman category, with Nwolisa Kingsley from Zone 13 in second. Kelvin Nwose from Zone 5 came third, and Wilson Judge from Zone 3 placed fourth.
In the women’s 76kg wrestling category, Dimejesi Nkechi from Zone 13 claimed first position, followed by Nwome Ifeyinwa from Zone 9. Kehinde Aare from Zone 2 came third, and Okologo Joy from Zone 5 placed fourth.
Finally, in the women’s 72kg category, Ezeugwu Ifeyinwa from Zone 9 secured first place, Balogun Adenike from Zone 17 won second, Faith Ikhines settled for third, and Happiness Godson from Zone 16 came fourth.
