United Nigeria Airlines has recorded its fifth bird strike incident between January and April 14, 2026, raising fresh concerns about aviation safety challenges.

In a statement issued by the airline, the latest incident involved one of its CRJ-900 aircraft during the landing of Flight UN0579, which operated from Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport, Kano, to Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, and was scheduled to arrive at 18:15 hours.

The airline stated that, in line with its strict safety protocols, the affected aircraft has been withdrawn from service to undergo comprehensive technical inspections and necessary maintenance before returning to operations.

“Consequently, some flights across our network may not operate as scheduled; however, safety remains our highest priority. We sincerely apologise for any inconvenience this unforeseen development may cause to our passengers’ travel plans,” the statement said.

United Nigeria Airlines noted that all five bird strike incidents recorded this year have been managed in full compliance with aviation safety regulations and established operational procedures.

“We appreciate the understanding of our valued passengers and reaffirm our commitment to maintaining the highest standards of safety and operational reliability.

We will continue to take all necessary measures to optimise our operations and exceed passengers’ expectations,” the airline added.
