Residents of Birnin Gwari local government area have commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Governor Uba Sani over the flag-off of the reconstruction of the 122-kilometre Mando-Kaduna-Birnin Gwari Road, valued at N177 billion.

The council chairman, Salisu Isah, in a statement, said the road project marks a defining moment in the history of the area.

The statement noted that for the Birnin Gwari residents, it was not simply a road project but the restoration of an economic lifeline.

Isah said the highway was one of the most important corridors linking Northern Nigeria with the South and is relied upon daily by thousands of farmers, traders, transporters, students, civil servants, artisans and other citizens.

He stated that the road reconstruction will improve security, facilitate agriculture and commerce, create employment, reduce transportation difficulties and strengthen the movement of people and goods across the region.

“It is a moment of thanksgiving to Almighty Allah and a moment of renewed hope for generations of our people who have long prayed and waited to see this vital road restored”

The statement reads in parts, “Mr President, history remembers leaders not only for the promises they make, but for the promises they fulfil. Your visit to Birnin Gwari before assuming office remains fresh in our memory. You travelled by road, saw the condition of the highway for yourself and witnessed the difficulties confronting our people”

“You gave your word that the Federal Government would address the security challenges affecting Birnin Gwari and would also attend to the deplorable condition of the Kaduna-Birnin Gwari Road”

The statement said, “The improvement in security in our communities has already brought renewed hope to our people, encouraged the return of farmers to their farms and created a more conducive environment for economic activity.

The commencement of this road reconstruction now adds another major pillar to the recovery and development of our Local government”

“Governor Uba Sani has demonstrated that the development of Birnin Gwari is part of the wider development agenda of Kaduna State. His administration has supported several important interventions in the Local Government, and we consider it necessary to acknowledge them publicly”

“The ongoing reconstruction of the 36-kilometre Bagoma-Gagumi Road is one such intervention. The project is progressing to an advanced stage and, importantly, is being reconstructed to a standard that gives our people renewed confidence in its long-term value,” Isah stated.

The statement called for the completion of the Gwargwaje-Zaria Road from Farin Ruwa to Saulawa, which had commenced in 2011 but was subsequently abandoned.

Isah also pleaded to the Federal and Kaduna State Governments, “to revisit this project and bring it to completion. Its completion will open up communities, strengthen commerce and provide another important connection for our people. Second, we appeal for the reconnection of communities in the eastern and western parts of Birnin Gwari to the national electricity grid,” the statement said.

“We equally call for the establishment of a JAMB examination centre and functional skills acquisition centres, with support from government, development partners and other relevant national and international organisations.

These investments will give our young people the opportunity to acquire knowledge and skills without having to travel long distances, while also creating a stronger foundation for peace and economic development,” the statement added.
