Black Panther Actress Connie Chiume Dies At 72

Popular South African actress Connie Chiume who starred in the Blockbuster movie, Black Panther is dead.

She was aged 72.

Chiume died on Tuesday, August 6, 2024, at Garden City Hospital in Johannesburg.

A statement announcing the passing of the actress by the family on her Instagram handle on Tuesday, requested privacy as they mourn the huge loss.

The statement reads, “The Chiume Family regrets to inform you of the passing of the internationally acclaimed award-winning actress Connie Chiume.

“Connie Chiume, 72, passed on at Garden City Hospital today August 6, 2024. The family will communicate further details and ask for privacy during this difficult period.”

Reacting to the demise, Nigerian Nollywood actress, Kate Henshaw, in a post on her Instagram page, expressed her admiration for Chiume.

She wrote, “NO! Rest in peace Mum Connie. You were deeply loved & appreciated. My condolences to South Africa; they have lost a beautiful soul. Sleep well, my friend!”

The South African Government also took to its official X handle to mourn the actress, paying tribute to her family and colleagues.

“Our heartfelt condolences to the family, friends, and colleagues of multi-award winning and legendary actress Connie Chiume. Her outstanding work will always be remembered,” the South African Government said.

Chiume’s career spanned several decades, during which she became a household name through her roles in popular TV shows such as Mohlolohadi, Yizo Yizo, Zone 14, Rhythm City, Housekeepers, and Grassroots.

She also made a mark internationally with her role in the Black Panther and its sequel, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.
