Boat Mishap Claims 12 Lives In Nasarawa, Assembly Mourns

No fewer than 12 people have lost their lives in a boat accident on river Kogi Kungra Kamfani in Arikiya, Lafia local government area of Nasarawa State.

It was gathered that 19 passengers were on board the ill-fated boat when it capsized.

Seven people were rescued by divers, while the remaining passengers perished.

The information on the accident was made public by the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Ibrahim Balarabe Abdullahi during an emergency sitting on Thursday.

“It is very very sad that we lost 12 people, compromising of men and women in a boat mishap in Arikiya, Lafia LGA.

“19 people were on board, 12 died and 7 rescued. Lafia LGA and our dear state have been thrown into mourning over this sad incident,” he said.

The speaker on behalf of the entire lawmakers, commiserated with the State government and Lafia local government over the incident.

He also commiserated with the bereaved families over the death of their loved ones and urged the families, Lafia LGA and the state government to bear the irreparable loss.

“We condole with the bereaved families, Lafia LGA and the state government over their death in a boat mishap.

The speaker prayed God to forgive their shortcomings and grant them eternal rest.

The lawmakers observed a minute silence in their honour.
