Allamin Foundation For Peace and Development yesterday organised a One-Day Workshop to train Borno State government officials on the application of Transitional Justice against survivors and victims in the ongoing Boko Haram insurgency.

The vice chancellor of Borno State University (BOSU), Prof. Haruna Dlakwa, who facilitated the workshop held at Musa Usman State Secretariat in Maiduguri, said the training would explore participants’ understanding of Traditional Justice and related concepts.

According to Prof Dlakwa, the workshop would also extract participants’ commitments on how their respective MDAs would assist in pushing programmes on Transitional Justice and Reconciliation in Borno State.

He described the concept of transitional justice as a collective responsibility that involves everyone contributing, even though Borno State had already developed a unique model for addressing the post-conflict situation.

The executive director of Allamin Foundation, Hajiya Hamsatu Allamin, urged participants to make good use of the knowledge gained from the training as the state is still battling with the consequences of the over a decade-long insurgency.

She said, “I urge you to contribute your quarter to the discourse on why Borno needs Transitional Justice. Apart from the general community, some people are more victims than others in the Boko Haram insurgency.

“While working in your offices, think of these people who are more victims than others, include them, plan for them and execute for them.”

Participants in the workshop expressed readiness to extend knowledge learned to the targeted audience.
