Governor Dauda Lawal on Saturday presented the Staff of Office to the 16th Emir of Gusau, His Royal Highness Alhaji Abdulkadir Ibrahim Bello II, alongside 18 other first-class Emirs of Zamfara State.
The colourful coronation ceremony held at the Trade Fair Complex in Gusau was attended by thousands of subjects, traditional title holders, top government officials, and dignitaries from across the North-West.
The new Emir of Gusau, a direct descendant of Malam Sambo Dan Ashafa, founder of the Gusau Emirate, was appointed in July 2025 following the death of his father, Alhaji Ibrahim Bello, on July 25, 2025, at age 71.
Gusau Emirate, with roots in the 19th-century Sokoto Jihad, remains the cultural and political heart of Zamfara State.
Presenting the Staff of Office, Governor Lawal described the new Emir as a gentle, compassionate and humble personality with the capacity to lead.
He charged all traditional rulers in the state to join hands with government at all levels to restore lasting peace and stability, noting that insecurity can only be defeated through collective effort.
“Traditional leaders are custodians of our people and our cultural heritage. You must serve as beacons of unity, peace and development and promote harmonious coexistence among your subjects and beyond,” Lawal said.
He expressed optimism that the reign of the 16th Emir of Gusau would usher in phenomenal socio-economic development for the Emirate, Zamfara State and Nigeria as a whole.
Responding, the Emir of Gusau, HRH Alhaji Abdulkadir Ibrahim Bello II, pledged to provide purposeful leadership that will promote peace, security and development.
He assured that he would stand by all his subjects, foster unity and attract development to the emirate, while calling on the people to remain law-abiding and supportive of government policies.
Pre-coronation activities included a Public Lecture on the history and life of the founder of Gusau, Malam Sambo Dan Ashafa, by renowned scholars, and a grand turbaning ceremony of distinguished personalities who have contributed to the growth of the Emirate and Zamfara State.
