The Legal Practitioners’ Privileges Committee (LPPC) has suspended Chief Mike Ozekhome from the prestigious rank of Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN).

He was suspended pending the conclusion of disciplinary proceedings against him.

In a statement issued on Thursday night by Kabir Akanbi, Chief Registrar of the Supreme Court, the decision was taken at the LPPC’s 173rd general meeting held on Tuesday, June 23.

Our correspondent reports that the action was a temporary measure pending the final conclusion of disciplinary proceedings against him before the LPPC’s disciplinary and ethics sub-committee.

The LPPC barred Ozekhome from parading himself or holding himself out as a Senior Advocate of Nigeria to protect the integrity of the rank.

LEADERSHIP recalls that in February 2026, Ozekhome was arraigned before the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) High Court in Maitama, Abuja, on a 12-count charge filed by the Federal Government of Nigeria. He pleaded not guilty and was granted bail in the sum of ₦10 million.

The charges border on conspiracy, forgery, impersonation, and false pretense. The federal government alleged that Ozekhome and his co-defendants forged a Nigerian international passport under the name “Tali Shani” to lay ownership claims to a luxury property located at No. 79, Randall Avenue in London, UK. A London tribunal previously dismissed his claims to the house, ruling that the documents were fraudulent and that the property belonged to the late former FCT Minister, General Jeremiah Useni (rtd).

Born on October 15, 1957, in Iviukwe, Agenebode, Edo State. He is a prominent Nigerian jurist, constitutional lawyer, and human rights activist. He trained under the late human rights activist and lawyer, Chief Gani Fawehinmi, SAN, before establishing Mike Ozekhome’s Chambers in 1986.
