The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has zoned its 2027 presidential ticket to the southern region of the country.

By implication, only PDP members from the South are fit content the presidential ticket of the party to contest against other candidates in the 2027 general election.

The decision was reached on Monday during the party’s 102nd National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting held in Abuja.

Announcing the resolution after the meeting, party leaders said the zoning arrangement was aimed at fostering unity and ensuring fairness within the PDP ahead of the 2027 general election.

“The NEC has resolved that the presidential ticket of our great party for the 2027 general election is hereby zoned to the South,” a statement from the party leadership read.

The move is expected to shape the contest within the PDP as political heavyweights in the South prepared to jostle for the party’s flag in the race to unseat the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
