The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has said that the petition at its disposal to recall the Senator representing Kogi Central, Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, from the 10th Senate, has not met the relevant requirement of the law.

In a terse alert posted on its verified Facebook page on Thursday afternoon, INEC wrote: “The petition for the recall of the Senator representing the Kogi Central Senatorial District has not met the requirement of Section 69(a) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 (as amended).”

INEC

The Commission, however, promised to issue a detailed statement on the development shortly.

Our correspondent reports that it was not clear at press time whether the petitioners would be given a second chance to amend their petition to comply with the extant law, or the petition would be rejected entirely.
