The Nigerian Association of  Resident Doctors (NARD) last night declared an indefinite strike  over what it described as failure of government to meet the demands of its members.

NARD president, Dr. Emeka Orji, told our correspondent that “the strike is commencing by Wednesday Morning, July 26, 2023.”

The said the decision was reached at the meeting held by the NARD NEC members last night in Lagos.

Orji said their demands include 200 percent salary increment, replacement of doctor who have resigned  and payment of the 2023 residency training allowance.

Orji lamented that their members are being overworked due to inadequate manpower and that they cannot no longer continue to wait for the government to do needful.

He said the SGF had asked them to hold on till Friday last week and by Friday, nothing happened.

“We don’t have doctors again in the hospitals, the fews doctors there are being overworked and part of the demand we are making now is a circular that has been released so that the CMDs can quickly replace those that have left and they are delaying it for God knows why,” he said.
