The Church of the Brethren in Nigeria, otherwise called Ekklesiyar ‘Yan’Uwa A Nigeria (EYN) has moved a step further on moves to build its own university.
The project, named Brethren University of Nigeria (BUN), will come as one of many development projects by the EYN, a church which describes itself as the worst affected by the destructive activities of Boko Haram insurgents but still carrying out many projects.
President of the EYN, Rev Daniel Mbaya, in his speech at the 2026 General Church Council meeting at the EYN headquarters in Kwarhi, Adamawa State, said the Brethren University of Nigeria was being built at its proposed permanent site in Muchala, Gombi LGA, where a land had been secured at N300 million and main gate is at advanced stage of completion.
“The land has certificate of occupancy and already the ground breaking has been done and the construction of gate and perimetre fence is ongoing,” he said.
The EYN president said the church was the worst hit by insurgency, saying more than 70 of its branches were displaced and many members were either abducted or killed.
