The Commander, 33 Artillery Brigade of the Nigerian Army, Brig. Gen. E. Egbe, has organised a football tournament to engage the youths within and outside the barracks in civil-military relations and promote physical fitness among them.
Speaking at the final match of the second edition of the tournament organised for within and outside Shadawanka Barracks community in Bauchi yesterday, the managing director, Nigerian Army Special Vehicles Plant, Major General AU Obiwulu, called on youths within the Brigade’s host community to support security agencies with information to tackle insecurity.
Gen Obiwulu disclosed that the Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. T.A. Lagbaja, encourages such events which are aimed at training and improving civil-military relations, sportsmanship and discipline.
He congratulated the commander for bringing the youths together through sports, maintaining that sports promotes unity among people.
He further charged the winners of the tournament, Guru Football Club, to celebrate their victory with dignity, saying there must be a winner in every contest.
The commander, Brig. Gen. E. Egbe, said the objective of the tournament was to promote good relations and collaboration with host communities.
He said the gesture would further take their hearts and minds away from crime, and discover talents among others.
Egbe commended the Chief of Army Staff, and to the General Officer Commanding 3 Division Nigerian Army and Commander Operation SAFE HAVEN, Maj Gen AE Abubakar for their support and direction in ensuring that the objectives of the competition were met.
