The Progressive Students Movement (PSM) has honoured Brigadier General G.U. Nwamba, Commander of the 35 Artillery Brigade, Nigerian Army, Alamala, Ogun State, with an award of excellence.
He was recognised as an Icon of National Development for his outstanding leadership, selfless service, and unwavering commitment to the welfare of his troops and national unity.
In a statement signed by PSM President, Comrade Ambassador Bestman Okereafor, the group described the honour as well-deserved.
PSM commended Brig Gen Nwamba’s dedication to the ideals of nation-building and his role in maintaining peace and order in Ogun and some parts of Lagos states.
The group also hailed the Nigerian Army’s broader efforts under the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede NAM mni………, in combating insurgency and criminal activities across the country.
It urged Nigerian youths and students to emulate patriotic figures like Lt Gen Oluyede and Brig Gen Nwamba, describing them as true role models.
The students’ movement further called on the younger generation to stay away from crime and contribute positively to national progress.
Receiving the award, Brig Gen Nwamba expressed gratitude to the student leaders and reaffirmed the military’s loyalty to the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces.
He encouraged the youths to remain patriotic and law-abiding, stressing that his actions are guided by the vision of the Chief of Army Staff.
According to Brig Gen Nwamba, all proactive security measures taken by his command are aligned with international best practices, national interest, and the Doctrine of the Nigerian Army.
The PSM’s honour comes at a time when the Nigerian Army intensified efforts to foster unity and tackle growing security challenges across the federation.
