Afrobeats Gospel Music Legend, Dr. Broda Martyns, aka “Mushin Olosha”, has added his voice to the endless campaigns against substance abuse and drug addiction particularly amongst the youth globally.
In his characteristic street Gospel Music styles, flavoured with trending beats of the popular dancehall genre, Broda Martyns, whose real names are Dr. Akaratu-Balogun Martyns, laments the evils of substance abuse and drug addiction and its debilitating effects on our young ones.
In this campaign, the internationally travelled music maestro whose debut album of over three decades, “Mushin Olosha”, still in high demand, decries this societal ill with a single song translated into seven versions in several Nigerian languages including the Nigerian popular Pigin English.
The song, composed and written by him, derives purely from an instruction God gave him late last year. He has painstakingly worked on it for about a year shooting videos to illustrate each of the versions namely in Igbo, Hausa, Yoruba, Igarra/Egbira, Pidgin English, regular English and even another version which is like an Altar call. The new album is entitled “Danger”.
It contains eight tracks such as: Siotete(Igarra/Ebira. Omoluabi
(Yoruba); Mpurimiri (Igbo). Help; Kudena (Hausa) and Gbena.
Though its a single with one beat in eight versions, each is uniquely expressed in a refreshing manner that deeply demonstrates the musical versatility and dexterity of this multiple award winning Gospel Icon of almost forty years.
The song does not condemn the addicts but points out the dangers with a stern warning to those taking it as well as the peddlers. “Jesus does not hate sinners. He only hates their sinful lifestyles. That is why He died for our sins. The love of God is immeasurable”, he said.
The multiple award winning Gospel Music legend, in an interview with LEADERSHIP Sunday, said the entire package will be released in Lagos later this month. He asserted that it will be on his record label Most High Music by the Grace of God.
Dr. Akarutu-Balogun Broda Martyns hails from Igarra in Edo State. He has been in Gospel Music Ministry for almost four decades and in Pastoral Ministry for over 25 years. He lives in Lagos with his wife Nkeiru. They are blessed with four children.
