The Nigerian Council of Registered Insurance Brokers (NCRIB), has indicated interested to establish an insurance brokerage marketplace in Aba with a view to extending it to other South East states.
President of the NCRIB, Ekeoma Ezeibe announced this when members of the council visited Abia State governor, Alex Otti at his Nvosi country home in Isiala Ngwa South local government area.
Ezeibe said the proposed micro-insurance policy is aimed at underserved traders, roadside vendors, and small businesses, who constitute the bulk of entrepreneurs in the city.
She lauded the governor for transforming the state, including the rehabilitation of markets and roads, which has restored the lost glory of the city as the business hub of the South East.
The president said insurance coverage, such as fire and liability policies, can protect state resources and prevent funds meant for development from being diverted to cover losses.
‎In his response, the governor called for stronger collaboration between government and insurance brokers with a view to making insurance simple and trustworthy for Nigerians to venture into.
‎Otti said before now, insurance policy was perceived as one of the most difficult products to sell due to poorly explained details which often left policyholders frustrated at the point of claims.
‎He also said the emergence of the NCRIB had helped to correct the lapses by standing between insurance companies and customers, ensuring transparency, and protection for the insured.
