Nigerian singer and songwriter Olawale-Brymo Olofooro, better known as ‘Brymo’ has said his focus is on making meaningful music and building a lasting career, rather than chasing awards.

Speaking on TVC while discussing his latest album, ‘Shaitan’, the singer addressed the creative choices behind some of his song and album titles.

Brymo explained that certain titles are intentionally designed to spark curiosity and draw listeners to the message in the music. He said the aim is to get people talking and paying attention.

According to him, attracting attention is a common strategy in business. He added that he prefers using thought-provoking titles instead of content created purely for shock value.

“There’s this whole idea that the business world always uses fear and intrigue to sell and to pull you out of your peaceful state of mind, and it works all the time.”

The singer said his goal is not to create controversial content. Instead, he wants to spark curiosity. According to him, listeners often find a deeper message once they look beyond a song’s title.

Speaking on awards, Brymo said recognition does not determine his worth as an artiste. He added that his main focus is creating quality music that can stand the test of time and support his career.

“You can’t threaten me with some flashy award because I know what I’m doing,” he added.

He also raised concerns about some award schemes. According to him, certain honours may be influenced by lobbying and financial interests rather than merit alone.

He added:

“If you don’t subscribe to those things, then you are rated below where you should be. And the worst part is that the awards are being lobbied for, so why would I pay money to look like I’m big when I can just work and then know in my soul that I’m big.”IMG 2433

Brymo said success is not defined by fame or popularity. According to him, true success comes from the impact of his work and his ability to make a living from his music.

“When the work takes care of me and puts food on my table, it is good work,” he concluded.
