The Yobe State governor, Hon Mai Mala Buni, has described the two-day working visit of President Muhammadu Buhari to Yobe State as a clear indication of return of peace after years of destruction by Boko Haram insurgents.

Buni who stated this during a gala night in honour of the president’s visit said for Buhari to pass the night in Damaturu the Yobe State capital, peace has returned to the state and the Northeast region in general.

The governor said everyone living in the country knew how devastating the situation was before the administration of president Buhari in 2025, expressing happiness that people are now living their normal lives across the state.

“Let me seize this opportunity to specially appreciate Mr. President for his untiring efforts in ensuring that peace is not only restored but sustained in our state, the Northeast region and Nigeria.  “It is now evidently clear that your commitment to the fight against insurgency has returned peace to the region, giving our people a true sense of belonging. As a government, we are spurred by your exemplary leadership style which inspires us with a new zeal to rebuild our state. The government and good people of Yobe state are glad with your esteemed presence to inaugurate some of the projects executed by this administration.

“As you are all aware, Yobe State is second to Borno as a victim of the callous Boko Haram attacks that ravaged several communities, killing thousands of people with scores of public and private properties unjustifiably destroyed. These forced many people to flee their communities only to become Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) with no means of livelihood.

“When we assumed office in 2019, we came with a determination to rebuild our State and people from the senseless destruction to that of productivity and improved livelihood.”

This explains why we placed the focus of this administration on the mantra of CONTINUITY, CONSOLIDATION, and INNOVATION, from the achievements recorded by the previous administration,” Buni said.

The governor said his administration identified and worked on the rejuvenation of education, provision of a functional healthcare, the construction of International Modern Markets, and rebuilding of infrastructure including roads, water supply, and industries.
