Yusuf Buhari, son of Nigeria’s late former President, Muhammadu Buhari, has emerged winner of the All Progressives Congress (APC) House of Representatives primary for the Sandamu/Daura/Mai’adua Federal Constituency in Katsina State.

Yusuf polled 6,386 votes to defeat his challenger, Auwal Daura, who secured 322 votes in the primary election conducted on Saturday.

The outcome of the exercise has sparked reactions across political circles in the Daura axis, where the Buhari family continues to wield significant political influence.

Officials who supervised the primary described the process as peaceful, transparent and orderly, with delegates participating from the three local government areas of Sandamu, Daura and Mai’adua.

One of the supervising officials, Ibrahim, said the outcome reflected the wishes of party members in the constituency.

According to him, “Yusuf Buhari’s overwhelming victory reflects the enduring political influence and goodwill associated with the Buhari name in the constituency and across the state.”

As of the time this report was filed, Yusuf Buhari had yet to officially react to his victory, although APC supporters and loyalists celebrated shortly after the results were announced.

With the win, he is expected to emerge as the APC candidate for the constituency in the 2027 general elections.

The constituency has 21,855 registered voters, while 6,837 delegates were accredited for the primary. A total of 6,708 votes were cast during the exercise.
