The Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC) in Cross River State has urged political parties in the country to adopt a transparent approach and peaceful conduct ahead of the 2027 general elections to consolidate the democratic gains.

IPAC credited the state’s current relative peace and political stabilitybto the “peaceful co-existence of political parties” stressing that power of democracy lies in fairness.

IPAC state chairman, Engr Effiom Edet Okon, stated this while commenting on Democracy Day after a stakeholders meeting yesterday in Calabar.

In a statement signed by Okon and the publicity secretary, James Otudor, IPAC said “the focus must shift to strengthening institutions to build public trust” as the next electoral cycle approaches.

They stressed that democracy needs “fairness, openness, and equal political opportunity for all.”

The council called for a “Balanced Political Space” with mutual understanding and institutional neutrality.

It also urged political collaboration guided by “shared vision and voluntary consensus” and a “cautious and law-abiding approach to emerging political activities” to avoid tension.

IPAC emphasised that “sustained focus in the delivering of benefits to citizens” remains the strongest foundation for political goodwill.

It recommended regular interfacing for conflict resolution, responsible conduct, and support for youth, women, and emerging leaders to keep governance transparent.

The statement reassured that IPAC will remain a committed partner in “advancing peace, stability, and democratic consolidation.”
