BUK Appoints Professor Haruna Musa As New VC

The Governing Council of Bayero University Kano (BUK) has approved the appointment of Professor Haruna Musa as the 12th Vice Chancellor of the University.

A letter signed by the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the University Governing Council, Dr. Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna, which was made available to journalists by the Director, Public Affairs, BUK, Lamara Garba, said the appointment is for a period of five years with effect from August 18, 2025.

“The Governing Council of Bayero University, Kano in the exercise of the powers conferred on it by section 4 of the Universities (Miscellaneous Provision) Amendment Act, 2003, at its meeting held on Thursday, 03 July, 2025 considered the submission from the Selection Board, hereby approved your appointment as the substantive Vice Chancellor of Bayero University, Kano for a period of 5 (five) years with effect from August 18, 2025,” the letter read in part.

Gawuna, while congratulating Prof. Musa, equally prayed for a successful tenure in office as the 12th Vice-Chancellor of the University.

Prof. Musa was born in Dambatta, Kano State, on June 20, 1967, he attended Sabuwar Unguwa Primary School Dambatta from 1974-1980 and Government Secondary School Dambatta from 1980-1985.

He obtained his IJMBE Certificate from the College of Arts, Science and Remedial Studies (CASRS) Kano (1988), BSc (Hons) Chemistry from Bayero University, Kano (1991) and MSc Polymer Chemistry from BUK (1999) and PhD Chemistry from University of Bristol, United Kingdom (2009).

During his PhD studies, Prof. Musa worked as part-time Chemist with Revolymer Ltd, a spin-off company of the University of Bristol.

He has served as Principal Investigator of a research on the Development of Electrically Rechargeable Zinc Air Battery for Rural Electrification using Carbon based Nanomaterials, a project funded to the tune of thirty six million naira (N36,000,000:00) by the National Research Fund (2020-2024), a Research Partner in two Institution Based Research (IBR) grants of 1.7million naira (2023) and 2million naira (2019), amongst others.
