Governor Mai Mala Buni of Yobe State on Wednesday, last week attended the funeral prayers of Ba Wali Shettima, the elder brother of the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Alhaji Baba Mallam Wali, in Nguru.

A statement issued by the Press Secretary to the Deputy Governor, Hussaini Mai Suleh indicates that the funeral prayers, held at the Nguru Central Mosque, were led by the Chief Imam of the mosque, Sheikh Ibrahim Shehu Ahmad.

The governor was represented at the funeral by his deputy, Hon. Idi Barde Gubana.

The late Ba Wali died at the Yobe State University Teaching Hospital, Damaturu after a prolonged illness at the age of 80. He is survived by a wife, 10 children and many grandchildren.

Governor Buni described the death of the renowned Islamic scholar as a great loss not only to the Nguru community but to Yobe State as a whole.

Speaking on behalf of the governor, the deputy governor extolled the virtues of the late cleric, describing him as a man of peace, knowledge and humility who devoted his life to the teaching and propagation of Islam.

He conveyed the condolences of the Yobe State Government and the people of the state to the bereaved family, particularly the Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Baba Mallam Wali.
