Governor Buni, represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Baba Mallam Wali, disclosed this when he received a delegation from the federal government, led by the minister of state for Regional Development, Uba Maigari Ahmadu, as part of the North-East Development Commission’s (NEDC) mandate to inaugurate and hand over significant projects in the state.

He said that the present administration in the state was aware of the establishment of the NEDC, which was primarily to address humanitarian and development challenges facing the region after the prolonged Boko Haram crisis.
The governor referenced the wanton destruction of lives and properties by the insurgents, which drew back particularly in the development of education and the economy of the region.
He emphasised that significant recovery projects have been achieved through collaborative efforts with the NEDC.

Buni described that, the extension and completion of some strategic road projects, including the one that would link Geidam-Maine Sorowa to Damasak, which, according to him, would help curb insurgency within the axis.

In his remarks, the Minister of State for Regional Development, Uba Maigari Ahmadu, expressed President Tinubu’s commitment to confronting the recent resurgence of the Boko Haram insurgency, noting that the previous progress recorded would never go in vain.

He disclosed that, the Ministry for Regional Development, along with five other development commissions, was created by the Tinubu administration, underscoring his commitment to addressing regional disparities and accelerating balanced and sustainable development anchored in the renewed hope agenda of the President.

Speaking earlier, the MD/CEO of the NEDC, Mohammed Goni Alkali, noted that the commission’s visit to Yobe to hand over some projects signified the relationship between the state and the federal government, which is working closely to drive development projects that impact the lives of the people.

He also listed some of the completed projects to be inaugurated, including 18 higher vocational centres across the state, an ICT centre and a 250-seater auditorium, at the Yobe State University, a newly constructed NEDC office, and three model schools across the three senatorial districts, among others.
