Yobe State Governor Mai Mala Buni has initiated a partnership with the Small and Medium Enterprises Development Agency of Nigeria (SMEDAN) to secure employment opportunities for unemployed graduates in the state.

Governor Buni, in a meeting with the Director General SMEDAN Mr Charles Odii yesterday, said he is personally worried and shares the pain of the unemployed graduates.

“The government is committed to securing employment opportunities for unemployed graduates to meet the expectations of their families, for them to live their lives with dignity and prosperity.

A statement signed by Mamman Mohammed, DG Press and Media Affairs to the Governor, said the state government has massively employed university graduates, higher and ordinary diploma holders, and national certificate of education graduates across the 178 political wards in the state in recent years.

The governor assured that his administration would continue to work towards providing the people with gainful employment for a decent means of livelihood,

He added, ” As a government, we are committed to doing anything humanly possible to secure and promote the employment and self-employment of our graduates.

Buni noted with pleasure that many youths trained in various trades are gainfully employed today and labour employers.

“This partnership occupies an extraordinary place in the heart of our administration, and we are committed to securing jobs for our youth.

“Government will explore the potential in each of the 17 local government areas to provide livelihood and economic prosperity to our youth.

The Director General of SMEDAN, Mr Charles Odii, expressed his agency’s readiness to partner with the Yobe state government to secure employment for unemployed graduates.

He said SMEDAN would drive, stimulate, and coordinate the development of micro, small, and medium-scale enterprises (MSMEs) among the targeted beneficiaries to promote self-employment.

The DG assured the partnership would provide the beneficiaries with skills to accelerate self-employment programmes for economic prosperity.
