Yobe State Governor, Mai Mala Buni, has presented a budget of N217billion for the 2024 fiscal year to the state House of Assembly.
The budget tagged: “Budget of Consolidation and Economic Development,” is geared towards completion of ongoing projects and funding new ones.
Buni said the 2024 budget accords priority to key sectors and programmes with direct impact on the lives of the people.
According to him, the sum of N122.8 billion was allocated to capital expenditure, while N94 billion was allocated to recurrent expenditure.
The state recorded an increase of N54 billion against the N163 billion budgeted for 2023.
Buni said education, healthcare and youth empowerment are given priority attention in the 2014 budget to improve the sectors.
“In the Agricultural Sub-sector we will establish two livestock development centres at Gurjiyaje and Badegana as contained in memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed with the Federal Government.
“The use of power tillers in agricultural production will be greatly enhanced through the procurement of cultivators, ridgers, planters, and improved seedlings for distribution to farmers. Efforts will also be made to provide modern storage facilities to support food security,” he said.
He said the Youth Empowerment Farm Programme will be boosted to provide gainful employment opportunities to the youth through rain-fed crop production and irrigation development.
He said animal health programmes will be improved through the provision of drugs and vaccines while animal production activities will be enhanced through artificial insemination, development of artisanal and aquaculture fisheries and reactivation of dormant hatcheries.
