Yobe State governor, Mai Mala Buni, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to strengthening procurement processes by establishing dedicated procurement offices in all ministries, departments and agencies (MDAs)and local government areas in the state.

Buni announced the initiative yesterday when he received a delegation from the National Association of Public Procurement Practitioners of Nigeria (APPON) led by its president, Dr. Emem James Kanico, at the Government House in Damaturu.

Represented by his deputy, Hon. Idi Barde Gubana, the governor stated that a qualified procurement officer will lead each new office.

According to him, the established regulations and standard procedures ensure transparency, efficiency, and value for money in public spending.

Governor Buni also commended APPON for championing best practices and transparency in procurement nationwide.

He also praised the director general of the Yobe State Bureau on Public Procurement, Alhaji Ismail Mai Adamu, for his dedication to enhancing procurement governance within the state.

In his response, APPON president Dr. Emem James Kanico disclosed that the visit aimed to engage stakeholders ahead of the association’s upcoming National Conference, scheduled for August 2025 in Maiduguri, Borno State.

Dr. Kanico announced that the conference, to be jointly hosted by the Borno and Yobe State Governments, will honour Governor Buni in recognition of Yobe State’s outstanding performance in public procurement.

He said the deputy governor Gubana will also receive special recognition for his personal commitment to APPON’s ideals.
