Businessman Demands N1m To Grant Wife Divorce In Abuja

A businessman, Nasiru Yunusa, has offered his wife, Aisha Hamisu, an unusual divorce deal: pay him N1 million and walk free.

The couple, married under Islamic law in 2021 and parents to a 13-month-old daughter, are embroiled in a heated divorce battle before the Upper Area Court in Kubwa, FCT.

Hamisu initiated the proceedings, citing lack of care and respect as reasons for seeking the dissolution of their marriage. She revealed that Yunusa evicted her from their home in April 2022, forcing her to return to her parents’ house with their daughter.

Yunusa, however, expressed interest in reconciliation but with a hefty price tag. He claims to have spent N1 million on legal fees and other expenses related to the ongoing court proceedings and demands this sum as compensation for a divorce.

“I have proof of spending N1 million on her,” Yunusa stated in court.

Unsurprisingly, Hamisu fiercely disputes this claim. She denies any romantic feelings for Yunusa and asserts her desire to end the marriage permanently. Furthermore, she denies receiving any financial support from him, highlighting that she covered the entire birth cost of their daughter through a C-section surgery.

“I’m willing to return the N50,000 dowry, that’s all,” she declared in response to Yunusa’s demands.

The judge, Mr. Mohammed Wakili, adjourned the case until January 8th for continued hearing. With Yunusa’s unusual demand on the table, the court’s next session promises further drama and intrigue in this peculiar divorce saga.
