Anambra State-born businessman and philanthropist, Obinna Iyiegbu, popularly known as Obi Cubana, has been conferred with a prestigious chieftaincy title in the State.
In a statement personally issued on Sunday, Iyiegbu, chairman of the Cubana Group, announced that he was honoured with the title Ife-Igbo-Ji-Ka-Mba by the Enugwu-Ukwu na Umunri Traditional Council.
The ceremony took place earlier on Saturday in the historic town of Enugwu-Ukwu.
According to the statement, the title was conferred by the traditional ruler, Igwe Ralph Obumneme Ekpe, in recognition of Iyiegbu’s accomplishments in business, philanthropy and his contributions to advancing Igbo culture and excellence.
“The title, which translates loosely as ‘the pride of the Igbo before the world,’ is reserved for individuals who have distinguished themselves in enterprise and community development,” the statement read.
While bestowing the honour, the monarch and members of the traditional council commended Obi Cubana’s “visionary leadership, value-driven entrepreneurship and commitment to social impact,” noting that his business success and philanthropic initiatives have continued to project Ndi Igbo positively on the global stage.
Speaking during the event, Obi Cubana expressed gratitude for the recognition, describing it as humbling, and reaffirmed his commitment to initiatives that foster economic empowerment and communal development.
He added that the chieftaincy title would further motivate him to uphold and promote Igbo heritage both within Nigeria and beyond its shores.
According to the statement, the ceremony attracted dignitaries from various sectors, including banking, oil and gas, real estate and hospitality, as well as community leaders and business executives who gathered to celebrate the occasion.
