Bauchi State Independent Electoral Commission (BASIEC) has said by-elections will be conducted in Zubo and Mainako wards of Shira and Zaki local government areas on Tuesday, January 6, 2026.
The executive chairperson of BASIEC, Jummai Abubakar, disclosed this in a statement signed by Ishiyaku Adamu, information officer of the commission.
She said the decision to hold the by-election in the affected wards was based on the 1999 Constitution (as amended), the Bauchi State Electoral Law of 2008 (as amended), and other relevant enabling powers.
Abubakar stated that polls would be held across Zubo Ward in Shira local government area and Mainako Ward in Zakicouncil on January 6, 2023.
She added the by-election, scheduled initially for Tumfafi Ward in Shira LGA, which was planned for December 2025, had been rescheduled to coincide with the January 2026 polls.
She further directed political parties and aspirants to obtain nomination papers from the respective Shira and Zaki Local Government Electoral Offices.
BASIEC emphasised that the notice serves as a formal notification to voters and stakeholders in Tumfafi and Zubo wards of Shira Local Government Area, as well as Mainako Ward in Zaki Local Government Area, that the elections will take place as scheduled.
She urged all eligible voters and stakeholders to prepare for the exercise and participate peacefully in the electoral process.
