CAA U18/20 Champ: Team Nigeria Clinch 2 Gold Medals In Women Heats

Nigerian athletes dominated the women’s heat events on the second day of the ongoing Confederation of African Athletics (CAA) U18/20 Championships in Abeokuta, Ogun State.

In the U20 Women’s 100 metres final, Nweke Chioma Cynthia of Nigeria sprinted to victory with a record time of 11.65 seconds, setting a new benchmark for the event.

Her compatriot, Oyibu Success Oghene, followed closely behind, clinching the silver with an impressive time of 11.78 seconds.

Chantal Shehu Lou Yoman from Côte d’Ivoire completed the podium, finishing third with a record time of 11.87 seconds.

The excitement continued in the U18 Women’s 100 metres final where Nigeria’s Ezechukwu Miracle showcased her remarkable talent, winning the gold with a time of 11.88 seconds.

Nwankwo Rosemary also performed admirably, securing the silver medal with a time of 11.96 seconds.

Another Nigerian athlete, Jegede Miriam Adekunle, took home the bronze medal, finishing with a time of 12.20 seconds.

On the men’s side, South Africa’s Mukona Manavhela dominated the U18 Men’s 100 metres final, clocking an impressive 10.61 seconds to claim the gold medal.

His teammate, Jayden Fourie, secured second place with a time of 10.76 seconds while Nigeria’s Igbigbidje James Clifor rounded off the podium in third place, finishing in 10.89 seconds.

As the championships progressed, the atmosphere in Abeokuta remains electric, with spectators eagerly anticipating more remarkable performances from the continent’s brightest young athletes.
