More groups are calling on the Kano State House of Assembly (KNHA) to revert from the present five emirates created by the immediate past regime of governor Abdullahi Ganduje to one first class emir as inherited from the past.

The messages are contained in separate letters issued to the Kano State House of Assembly by concerned groups in the state.

Association for the Protection of Culture and Tradition in a letter signed by its leader Alhaji Yunusa Umaru emphasized on the need to protect the tenets of Kano culture and tradition.

He emphasised that for as long as the culture and tradition of the people does not contradict the religion, it is binding on the people to adhere to the culture and tradition.

He called on the Assembly to review the laws establishing the five emirates in Kano and revert back to the original laws that stipulated one emirate with one first class emir.

“The history of Kano Emirate does not in any way contradict the religion or the laws of the land, that is even why the Kano Emirate is protected by the laws of the land.

“More so, it is the culture and tradition of the people that controls every Emirate. In a very sad situation, the immediate past government tampered with the age-old heritage by breaking it into five Emirates. This has contradicted the history and tradition of the Emirate that is known to be under one first class Emir.

“We hereby call on this honorable assembly to review this alteration and bring things back the way they were as they do not contravene religion or the laws of the land,” part of the letter to the assembly states.

The other group, Association for the Protection of Kano History, headed by Abubakar Sule called for the reinstatement of the history of the Emirate as it dates back to the time of Sheikh Uthman Dan Fodio.

“This is an organisation that is striving to protect the history of Kano State. History is something you cannot change.  The history of Kano Emirate started from the Jihad of Sheikh Uthman Dan Fodio 1804-1808. This history can never be altered as changing it is like changing the actual past history of the entire Emirate.

“We beg of this honorable assembly to review this issue and revert back to the original history of the Emirate,” the group demanded.
