Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has donated 200 bags of rice and maize to the Borno State government for onward delivery to the victims of the September 2023 flood disaster that destroyed property worth billions of naira, killed 100 persons and rendered about a million homeless.
Presenting the items to the chairman of the Maiduguri Flood Committee, Hon Baba Bukar Gujubawu, who received the items on behalf of the state governor, Prof Babagana Zulum, the vice president of CAN, Rev (Dr) Panya Stephen, said he visited Maiduguri on behalf of the national CAN president, Arch Bishop Daniel Okoh, to sympathise with the government and good people of the state over the devastating flood incident.
He prayed for the quick recovery of the property worth billions of naira lost by individuals and the state in the disaster, and prayed for the souls of the lives lost in the flood incident to find favour in the sight of God Almighty.
He also encouraged the affected victims to take solace in God.
Receiving the items, the flood committee chairman, Gujubawu, commended the national body of CAN for coming to the aid of the flood victims, saying that the gesture would go a long way in addressing the challenges of the victims.
“I appreciate the leadership of both Borno State and national CAN for their tremendous support, prayers and sense of togetherness. His Excellency was highly excited when he heard that you are in town, but his wishes were not actualised to meet you as he was occupied with some other engagements.
“However, I promise to deliver the gesture to the governor and wish that the national leadership of CAN can create another leisure time to visit Maiduguri.”
